Paronella Park (powered site tours and included) is the now crumbling realisation of one man’s fantasy - or dream really. Jose Paronella - baker, dreamer, tax dodger, exceedingly hard worker, inventor, creator - was a man driven to create a legacy and to build something amazing .... and he did. Despite catastrophic floods, devastating cyclones and the shift of the Bruce Highway taking the passing traffic past other places, Paronella Park survives and should be visited because there is romance and magic here. 
It is also a wonderful product of serendipity. Left to its return to the rainforest with the homemade concrete used to build the castles decaying and crumbling and the vines and forest reclaiming their space - a couple of travellers arrived looking for a caravan park to buy. So they did and left guests to wander among the ruins. One day, Jose’s daughter Theresa came to the door and asked if the couple would be interested in knowing about the history beneath the crumbling castles and rampaging rainforest. They did. They listened and learned and now are progressing with restoration and sharing the story of Jose’s dream.
We are now sat waiting for the roast beef in the Weber and about to light the fire to cook the beans and potatoes while enjoying a cold one and gazing at the beautiful vista of river and outback from site no.6 at Jervoise Station.
The station is a few thousand hectares and invites visitors to stay in bush camps with no one else near. The Dry River provides swimming, water for washing as well as a serene vista. Out for a walk among the bright and white ghost gums reaching up into the deep blue sky, we saw a koala. The koala was trying to chill out in the fork of a tree sucking on his soporific eucalyptus leaves, but he may have been close to the nest of two extremely anxious and verbal Blue Faced Honey Eaters. The birds screeched, the koala climbed and we watched.
The skies are big and high and the night sky is dotted with a hundred thousand stars shining brightly like diamonds. Rich we are indeed.
